Investment in Support for Offshore Renewables

A new business expansion opportunity

PPI Engineering is delighted to announce a new business expansion opportunity that has been supported by New Anglia Local Enterprise Partnership through their Business Resilience Grant Scheme.

The Project

PPI Engineering have identified an opportunity to provide ongoing condition monitoring and technical design and maintenance support for the electrical power generation equipment installed in offshore renewables.

In order to support its entry into this market sector PPI Engineering is investing in additional diagnostic equipment and associated design tools. This investment will also allow PPI to development general support and servicing capabilities. This will greatly improve the company’s competitive advantage and support capability. Following the investment it is expected the improvement in efficiency and growth opportunities will result in the creation of several new jobs.

The technically superior diagnostic equipment and design tools offer a significant improvement to PPI’s servicing and support capabilities. As a result, improving the company capability with to supply world class design and diagnostics on large rotating electrical machines and associated equipment.

The Opportunity

Current growth estimates predict renewable power capacity is set to expand by 50% by 2024 driven by Offshore wind and solar PV (IEA, 2019). The IEA report also identifies the requirement of high levels of investment and system integration as likely constraints to this sector.

PPI’s investment project will significantly reduce the likelihood of any constraints as the project will be providing a local support capability which currently does not exist. In addition to this, the project will provide access to more developed diagnostic capabilities, technologies which are increasingly becoming a prerequisite of many support contracts in the sector. PPI Engineering will have the full capability to visit customers’ sites in order to run diagnostics and identify any developing problems before they cause failures and loss of availability of generation equipment. These new capabilities will provide PPI with the ability to offer an alternative to original equipment manufacturers in this area.
